Two small cards that add RAID and a protected 175 MB write cache to the built-in SAS disk controller, with no PCI slot used.

Runs with IBM iYes ... Cache backup works whether RAID or IBM i mirroring is used.

With the #8310 or #8346 backplane it also drives one external #5886 EXP 12S drawer, for up to 18 SAS disks on the embedded controller. REDP-5052 says the two-core 9408-M25 and the 9409-M50 can use it with backplane #8345 for the external port and that the one-core 9407-M15 does not support that attachment; the sources checked do not say whether the M15 takes the card itself.

The drive bay and controller setup decides how many drives the server can hold and how they are protected. Changing it usually means planning downtime, so check it against your machine type first.
